| Welcome to Tywyn - Tywyn is Welsh for dune, relating no doubt to the beautiful dune-lined beaches stretching north and south from the town's promanade, between The Dysynni Estuary and Aberdyfi. But Tywyn and the surrounding area has far more to offer than just it's beaches - all this fabulous scenery featured below is within a few minutes of Tywyn... | |||||||||||||||||||

The streams which rise high on the South and Eastern slopes of Cader Idris fall nearly 3000 feet in a little over ten miles before entering the sea at the Dysynni estuary. On this short journey they flow from rugged mountain and wild moorland, down through steep oak woods, fertile pastures, salt marsh, tidal lake and finally seashore. Few places in Britain offer such an extraordinary diversity of landscape and habitat in such a small geopgraphical space. Whether your holiday preference is for action and adventure or sunbathing on the beach you’ll find something to satisfy you. North Wales is ranked among the best areas in the world for mountainbiking, kite-surfing is popular on our four miles of flat, sandy beach together with sailing, surfing, canoeing and climbing. Some of Britain’s greatest mountaineers learnt their skills ‘bouldering’ on our beaches and climbing our high-mountain routes. On the other hand, you might want the chance to enjoy the area’s abundant wildlife and historic sites or simply the opportunity to relax by a tranquil lake or by the sea. There is free parking on the promenade and safe swimming from the beach (blue-flagged 2008) where lifeguards are on duty in peak season. | ![]() |
